Sacred Herbology is an online apothecary and journal about the plants, resins and woods people have used in ritual, ceremony and magic, from the incense of Egyptian temples to the herb lists of the medieval grimoires and the ceremonial plants of the Americas.
The Journal
The Journal publishes long-form articles on one plant or one text at a time: where a ritual use is actually recorded, which edition or manuscript it comes from, and how it changed as it passed from one tradition to the next. We cite real editions and say plainly when a “traditional” claim turns out to be a modern invention. Grimoire material is treated as esoteric literature in its own right, kept separate from folk custom, and living traditions, including Indigenous ones, are described with attribution and respect for knowledge that is not ours to publish.
The shop
The shop sells living plants and seed for the garden, nursery and ritual bed, along with study editions and almanacs for practitioners in the Southern Hemisphere. Plants and seed are sold for growing and ritual use. We do not sell anything in the Live Plants and Seeds range for eating, drinking or extraction.
Who looks after it
Sacred Herbology is overseen by Frater Leo Viridis, Grand Magus of Consilium Fraternitatis Rosae Crucis, with a small team of writers, growers and researchers in Australia. We ship Australia-wide.
